Dulaglutide

Dulaglutide (brand name Trulicity) is a once-weekly injection used in the UK to treat Type 2 diabetes by lowering blood sugar and increasing insulin production

Available in doses of 0.75 mg to 4.5 mg, it is widely accessible again after previous shortages. While often resulting in weight loss, it is not officially licensed for weight management in the UK.

  • Availability: Stocks of Trulicity were resupplied in late December 2024, resolving previous nationwide shortages, according to Diabetes UK.
  • Usage: It is a subcutaneous injection, usually taken weekly in the stomach, thigh, or upper arm.
  • Dosage: Licensed as a monotherapy (0.75 mg) or combination therapy, with doses that can increase to 1.5 mg, 3 mg, or 4.5 mg.
  • Side Effects: Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and decreased appetite.
  • Costs: As of late 2025, the NHS indicative price is approximately £73.25 for a pack of 4 pens.

  • Not for Weight Loss: Although it causes weight loss, it is not authorized specifically for this purpose in the UK.
  • Missed Dose: A missed dose can be taken if there are at least 3 days (72 hours) left until the next scheduled dose.
